My boyfriend is a bass player in a new and upcoming band. They haven’t quite broken the scene yet but I can comfortably say that they have quit a strong following. It is important for any new band to get as much exposure as possible and this means that they would need to tour as often as possible and gig as much as they can. Musicians usually have a love-hate relationship with being on the road and the hate part is usually related to the actual time spent on the road. Here are a few important tips to note while on tour with your band.
This does not only include your electronic GPS or other devices that require internet to work. Take a good set of maps that cover the area where you will be travelling. This will allow you and your fellow band members to always be able to navigate your route and find the places that you might have to visit during your tour. Remember that there might not always be single to search for routes and directions online. Go the old fashioned route by always having a backup plan. Click here for some great online map options.
Remember that you might have quite some time on the road which will require you to spend money on food, accommodation and other amenities. For this reason make sure you always take enough money with you on tour to avoid running out and having to sponge off your band mates. Set up a budget beforehand and stick to it. Set of rules
Your tour should be fun but you should also remember that it is a step to stardom and your musical career in other words it is a good thing to be serious about the tour and focus on the music. Have fun and attend functions but set up ground rules for the band to make sure you are always fresh and ready for the performances that lie ahead.
A good and reliable vehicle
This is by far the most important investment any band can make. Take a look at sprinter vans and invest in one of the most luxurious vehicles with ample space for you and your band. Vans are great for touring and will give everyone a great ride while on the road. You might be travelling quite a distance and there is no reason why you shouldn’t be doing it in the lap of luxury.
Gigs in advance
It is important to book all your gigs in advance to avoid any unplanned cancellations or inconveniences. Stick to the schedule that you have set up and make sure to always arrive on time. No one wants to wait hours to see a band and it really doesn’t make for the greatest first impression to potential fans. Arrive early enough to get the feel of the venue and set up your equipment.
